The travelling World Series Sprintcars show rolled into Brisbane on January 10 for Round 14 of the Championship at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway (BIS) and by night's end, the Aceways Autogear Racing team of Todd Wanless, Robbie Farr and Brent Kaeding had posted a couple of top ten results against what many regard as one of the strongest sprintcar fields ever assembled at the venue. With nine Americans (including Brent), current Australian Champion Brooke Tatnell, six time World Series Champ Max Dumesny and host of Qld and interstate stars in the thirty-two car field, the racing was always going to be hard and fast on the 1/4 mile raceway. All three team members qualified within the top fifteen drivers in time trials and all within two tenths of a second of each other, earning themselves mid-field starts in each of their Heat races. Both Robbie and Brent gathered enough points through their Heat races, when combined with their time trials points, to qualify for the six lap Dashes and to lock themselves into the thirty lap A-Main, Robbie running fourth in the A-Dash and Brent bringing his #69 Maxim home second in the B-Dash behind son Bud Kaeding. Todd however had the toughest test of the three, finishing fourth in the B-Main to grab one of the six transfer spots on offer and lining up on the eighth row of the thirty lap Feature race. However Todd's run in the Feature was short-lived, a flat right rear tyre on the #61 Maxim ending his race on lap five. Brent finished third in the Feature behind Brooke Tatnell and Bud for a deserved podium result, racing the entire distance on Bud's rear bumper and often having a look for either an inside or outside pass on his son as the two raced through the backmarkers. Robbie brought his #7 Cool home in eighth spot after running in the top five during the middle part of the race, consolidating his fifth place in the Championship standings despite only contesting nine of the fourteen rounds of the Series to date this season. Todd, Robbie an Brent return to BIS this Friday night, January 12, for the preliminary qualifying events of Saturday night's fifty lap, $20 000 to win Titan Garages World Series Australian Sprintcar Open Final. No other race in the twenty year history of the Series has ever paid the purse on offer on Saturday night and the Aceways Autogear Racing team will be after their share in the final World Series event of the 2006/07 season. |
