Aceways Autogear Racing team driver Robbie Farr has kicked off his 2006/07 season in near perfect fashion, winning two of his three qualifying heats and placing second in the other to pace the field heading into the second night of the Morvale Sprintcar Spectacular at Macs Speedway in Mackay. Farr enjoys a ten point buffer at the top of the leader board while team mate Todd Wanless is also placed inside the top six after night one, Wanless and his crew working hard in the pits to salvage their weekend after an incident in the first qualifier left the #61 Maxim with minor damage to the front of the chassis. It was Wanless' second race of the evening however that had the crowd cheering for more. Todd and fellow Queenslander Andrew Scheuerle swapped the lead a number of times over the final laps, both drivers running high and low on the racetrack before Todd slipped underneath Scheuerle in turn three to take the lead for the final time in sight of the chequered flag. Remarkedly, Todd raced the entire heat after losing the right front torsion arm on lap one while also holding off the advances of Garry Brazier over the entire distance, a drive that earned the former National Champion valuable points towards the all-important Dash on night two. Joining Farr and Wanless inside the top six qualifiers are Allan Woods, Andrew Scheuerle, Max Dumesny and Garry Brazier with Richard Morgan, Danny Reidy, Ricky Mitchell and Luke Dougherty rounding out the top ten. The final night of the Morvale Sprintcar Spectacular opens with hot laps from 6pm, racing from 6:30 and features a huge fireworks display and After Party featuring local band XSNRG. |
