The opening event on the Aceways Autogear Racing team's 2006/07 schedule, the Morvale Sprintcar Spectacular in Mackay, was run on Saturday September 9 with team driver Todd Wanless placing second in the thirty lap A-Main event behind Garry Brazier to open his score sheet for the season with a podium finish. Team mate Robbie Farr finished fourth to secure top five finishes for both team cars in the first of more than fifty races on their schedule this season.
"Gary did a great job out there and we did our best to run with him but he was just a bit better than us tonight." Wanless explained post-race. "I thought we may have had something for him early but a few stoppages during the race took us out of lapped traffic and gave the advantage back to Gary.
Robbie led the points after the first night, we both made the Dash and finished inside the top five in the Feature so as a team we've come away with some encouraging results this weekend. Dan (Morton) and Lyndsay (Hawkins, Macs Speedway) have indicated they would like to see this race continue to grow in coming years and we'd certainly like to be part of it if we can, the concept is great and it helps sprintcar racing in Nth Qld continue to grow. We'll head to Cairns next week for another two night show, we've had some success up there before in some Championship races over the past few years so we're keen to get up there and chase another win."
Both Todd and Robbie will be in action at Cairns Motor Speedway this coming weekend, September 15/16, before the team returns to Brisbane International Speedway for the opening Round of the Comp Cams Series on September 30. All three Aceways Autogear drivers (Todd, Robbie and Pete Thorley) will be in action at Round 2 of the Series on October 7, the first of a number of Qld events all three cars are scheduled to compete at together this season. |
