So Near To The Win For Thorley

Pete Thorley came oh so near to winning at Maryborough Speedway on Saturday October 14, leading for most of the twenty-five lap sprintcar Feature race before eventually finishing in third position, his second podium in just his third race this season.

Driving the #51 Aceways Autogear Maxim, Thorley had dominated the race after starting on the front row alongside Andrew Scheuerle and led for just over twenty laps until an incident in lapped traffic put paid to his chances of securing his first win of the season. Pete was forced down low and onto the infield as he endeavoured to put additional space between himself and Scheuerle as they raced their way through the backmarkers, both Scheurle and Ben Wright taking full advantage of Pete's misfortune to get by and relegating him to third at the flag.

In Sydney for the third round of the Coca Cola Track Championship, Robbie Farr's night appeared to come to an early end with engine problems at the start of the night before team mate Todd Wanless vacated his seat in the #61 Cool to give Robbie an opportunity to run in front of his home town fans. In a field of sixty plus cars, Farr went on to qualify for the twenty-four car A-Main field by timing in twenty-fifth quick and finishing second in his Heat race but was out of the Feature event early with front end damage after an incident on the opening lap.

"It was unfortunate Robbie had some motor problems so we quickly made the decision for him to run my car for the night to give us an opportunity to learn some more about the Cool chassis as Robbie has run them with success in the past. Although he didn't get to finish the A-Main, we still learnt some things with the car which can certainly help us in the races to come." Todd explained upon his return to Brisbane. "And Pete ran really well on Saturday night up in Maryborough, he nearly got the win but fell just short at the end. All credit to Pete and the boys though, they're doing a great job for us in Qld and I'm sure they've got some more results coming their way this season."

The next events for the three car Aceways Autogear Racing team are scheduled for October 28. Todd and Robbie return to Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway for the next round of the Track Championship while Pete will chase the win in the second round of the 2006/07 Comp Cams Series at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway.
