Last weekend Robbie and the Titan team picked up their first feature race victory since round 13 of the WSS at Brisbane earlier in January. Robbie took out the Victorian State Championship in fine style to add to the already impressive list of career feature wins. With results over the past weeks not showing the results that the team would have liked, Robbie wasted no time in showing that he is still one of the fastest and toughest drivers in the Australian speedway scene. Forty cars on hand to try and grab the Victorian Title and Robbie showed the field he meant business, in his first heat starting from P1 at the first start Robbie was deemed to have jump too early, take two and again no start a couple of cars tangles back in the field but for some reason Robbie was sent to the rear as well, I think this fired the Milperra resident up and he set sail to claim the heat victory. With a second place from the rear in his next heat Robbie claimed top points and the right to start from the front row of the Main event. Electing to start from P1 Robbie wasted no time to take the lead and opened a gap of over two seconds from his nearest rival, working his way through traffic from lap 8 and extending his leads out to nearly five seconds when the first caution lights came on at lap 14. On the restart Robbie picked up where he left off before the caution and opened another gap of three second to the second placed car before yet another caution at lap 21. At the restart the black Q36 Titan Maxam took command once again to the finish. Next show on the calendar for Robbie and the Titan team is the $10,000 to win again at Sungold Stadium in Warrnambool this weekend. So here is how the scorecard has read since early January: WSS Round 14 - Heartland Raceway Time Trial – 15th, Heat 3 – 6th to 5th, Heat 6 – 5th to 2nd, A Main - 9th to 7th WSS Round 15 – Mildura Time Trial – 8th, Heat 2 – 7th to 4th, Heat 6 – 8th to 4th, Dash 1 – 6th to 5th, A Main – 9th to 6th. WSS Round 16 (Final) Speedway City Time Trial – 20th, Heat 2 5th to 2nd, Heat 6 6th to 6th. B Main – 7th to 4th, A Main 16th to 8th. WSS Championship final position 2nd. An interesting note is the World Series Sprintcar Championship was yet again a tough series to dominate, the three WSS title contenders all had to come from the B Main at the final night to make the Main event. Robbie did finish well ahead of his rivals on the night but there was not enough point’s gain to make a major difference in the final results. Kings Challenge – Mt Gambier Time Trial – 14th, Heat 2 – 5th to 5th, Heat 6 – DNF B Main – 16th to 2nd, A Main 16th to 7th Classic - Premier Speedway Night 1 Heat 3 – 4th to 3rd, Heat 8 – 7th to 2nd, Prelim A Main – 11th to 7th. Classic – Premier Speedway Night 2 Heat 12 – 9th to 2nd, Heat 17 – 2nd to 2nd. A Main – 7th to 6th. Sprintcar Nationals Speedway City, Night 1 Heat 2 - 5th to 6th, Heat 5 – 6th to 3rd. A Main 1 – 7th to 3rd. Sprintcar Nationals Speedway City, Night 2 Heat 8 - 4th to 2nd, A Main – 9th to 6th. Australian Sprintcar Title – Murray Bridge Practice night – 3rd fastest. Night One – Heat 1 – 5th to 1st, Heat 5 - 7th to 2nd. Prelim A Main – 1st to 2nd (Top points score after night one) Australian Sprintcar Title – Murray Bridge Night 2 – Heat 9 – 8th to 4th, Heat 13 – 5th to 2nd. (Overall 2nd high points) A Main 2nd to DNF Victoria Sprintcar Championship – Premier Speedway Heat 6 – 6th to 1st, Heat 12 – 10th to 2nd. A Main 1st to 1st. There has been a mixed bag with the results, with the exception of a DNF at the Kings Challenge and at the Australian Title there has only been one heat race that the Titan team car has not gone forward. Robbie and the Titan team have now got six majors on the board for the season and with more than ten nights of competition still to go all around the country for the team they will be looking to add to that tally. Robbie’s calendar over the coming weeks is as busy as it has been since the season started, 26/02/05 – Sungold Stadium, Warrnambool $10,000 to win. 5/03/05 – Sprintcar Masters, Speedway City 12/03/05 – Nanovich Tribute / King of Wings, Kwinana 19/03/05 – Krikke Boys – Bunbury 25/03/05 – Easter Trail – Avalon Raceway 26/03/05 – Easter Trail – Mt Gambier 26/03/05 – Easter Trail – Premier Speedway (Sungold Stadium) All this before heading to Queensland for the Queensland Title and the Australian Open at Archerfield. Robbie is looking forward to returning to Western Australia and the challenge of trying to add more of those prestigious races to the list of race wins he has claimed over the years in the West. Two King of Wings / Nanovich mains and three Krikke Boys titles plus an Australian Sprintcar Title have proved to be happy hunting grounds in Western Australia for Robbie. “I’m really looking forward to the trip to WA for these races, there is something special about them, they have come about by misfortunes in life but the people that these races honour will never be forgotten. All the families and friends that make theses races what they are special people too, it is a pleasure just to be racing for all the parties concerned” Don’t forget to check out our team sponsors on my home page.
