The World Series Sprintcars started last weekend in Brisbane for the Titan Team and myself, I was able to pick up a third place but already its shaping up to be a very tough Series. I flew up to Brisbane early on Friday night and with Scott Males who was returning after a season working with Jason Sides it was a good chance to get to know him before he starts working with our team. Plus I also caught up with Shane Stewart with his wife Kimberley and the guys from the Performance Wholesale Team. On Saturday morning I headed off to the race shop but the guys had everything almost done so I just checked the car over. With everything set for the nights racing Nick, Scott and I had some lunch, just the three of us chatting about the up coming WSS trail plus we had a good meal before the action started. After lunch we set off to the track and what a heat wave, I think it was around 38 degrees. We had to weight the car and for this night we had our new race motor fitted. It was producing good numbers on the dyno so we were hoping for a good results on the night. It was a good track and we were better off going out in the second half in time trails as I think most of the quick times were set late. I ended up with fast time so it was a great start to the night for my Titan Garages team. We were also good in the heats but its a small track and coming off the back and considering the guys we had in our heats it wasn’t a bad job to pick up a 6th and a 5th. We ended up second highest in points which gave me pole in the second Dash. I was able to post my first win of the series in the Dash, allowing me start from position 2 in the A Main. Top point scorer Darrell Hodges won his dash and elected to start from position 2 in the Main giving me pole position. For the feature we didn’t change the car much so we were a little off, Shane Stewart had a better car than us but with a third, I was still able to start the series with a podium finish. I was hoping to convert a pole start with a win but that wasn’t to be. I’m back in Queensland this weekend for round two of the WSS series. I raced at Toowoomba earlier this year, hopefully that experience will help us with a good direction for the next round, so if you are there don’t forget to come into the pits and say hi. See you at the track soon, Robbie |
