A Victory Is A Good Start To Christmas For Farr & The Titan Garages Team

It was a great start to Christmas last weekend with a victory for Robbie Farr and the Titan team at the Avalon round of the WSS, and going into the two weeks layoff with the points lead in the 2004/5 WSS championship to top it off.

Going into the previous round at Wagga, I was running second in the points and was looking for another top three finish. I knew that Wagga wasn’t going to be a strong track for me but it could have been a top two finish. After finishing second in the Dash, I had to start the feature from position four. Wagga was a track where there wasn’t any passing, it was really uneventful and that’s where I finished in fourth and just out of a podium placing.

Then last weekend we were off to Avalon for the last race meeting before Christmas, well my Titan Garages and Carports Maxim went out pretty late in the time trial session and ended up with 4th quick time, so I was really happy with that. Then it my first heat, the field got bunched up at the start and I made slight contact with another car when the cars in front piled up and got a slow leaking puncture in the left rear tyre. After coming from position 9, I had made it up into 4th with my tyre deflating, then starting the final lap, the tyre just exploded. What a bang with bits of the tyre going everywhere! It did some damage to the car but I was able to hold onto the car and while I lost a couple of places I was still finished sixth. In my second heat, the car was a little too tight so it didn’t allow me to move up as well as I would have liked but I ended the race in fifth.

Then next race was the Dash and this time I drew pole with Brooke starting alongside me. Brooke beat me off the line at Wagga but last week it was my turn and I got the jump on Brooke, going on to take out the race.

For the main I started from the outside of the front row and got the jump on the field. I wanted to get the lead so I could then control the pace and without a stoppage for the first 20 laps I was able to build up a good lead. There was a red which was lucky I guess cause my engine was starting to get hot, so rolling around when the yellows came back on really helped. At the restart with 10 to go I again had a clear track but there was another yellow two laps later. Again I got the start and with clear track it was like an 8 lap sprint and I was trying not to make a mistake and control the pace of the race. I was lucky that we didn’t catch up to any lapped traffic, which might have hindered me. From there I took out the race and the lead of the WSS points.
