It was another sensational night for Robbie in round 13 of the World Series Sprintcar held at the Brisbane International Speedway last Wednesday night with the #2 Toyota Genuine Parts Avenger picking up a fine second placing in the A Main. With only three rounds remaining in the 2002/3 WSS tournament, it was very important for Robbie to finish well in the second Brisbane round. American Daryn Pittman is leading the contest but Robbie still had a change of catching and overtaking the World of Outlaws racer so it was important for Robbie and the Krikke Motorsports team of a good result. Robbie timed in sixth quickest with a good 12.375 sec lap. Coming out of position seven in heat 3, Robbie was quickly “standin on the gas” going on to score a brilliant heat victory. He wasn’t so fortunate in his second race and after starting out of position eight, Robbie moved up five positions to greet the checker in third position. His good results meant that Robbie ended up highest pointscorer going into the A Main and with him winning his pole shootout over Pittman, Robbie was able to start the all important A Main from position number one. Robbie won the first start in the A Main but unfortunately they didn’t let the race go and Pittman won the second and took control of the race. Robbie tried to forge passed Pittman in lapped traffic but had to settle for second position. Pittman’s victory meant that the American extended his lead over Robbie and with two rounds remaining it looks like the Action Man will have to settle for second placing in the WSS Championship. “It was pretty good, we had a solid night after being 6th quickest in timetrails. I started off pole in the main and Pittman got the jump on us. It was kinda a one lane deal, so we had to follow him until I got into lapped traffic. I had a look a couple of times but he just didn’t make any mistakes and thats why he’s leading the WSS. Robbie and the Krikke Motorsports, Toyota Genuine Parts, Quick Race Parts, Avenger Chassis, Bunbury Toyota, PWR Radiators, Revolution Racegear, Valvoline, QA1 Signs and Fortron team head to Swan Hill in Victoria this Friday night for round 14 of the WSS series.
