Well, the postponed Australian Sprintcar Open was finally run last weekend and the “Action Man” Robbie Farr ended up his brilliant 2002/3 summer sprintcar season with a pleasing second place in the prestigious event.

Racing for the Titan Garages sprintcar team, Robbie was certainly “standin on the gas” all weekend. The first night of the two night meeting saw time trails opening the show before three rounds of hard fought heats being contested before finishing the night out with the Preliminary A Main. With a quality 24 car field, Robbie in the Queensland number 36 machine posted a 12.410 sec lap in time trails giving him sixth fastest time.

Robbie settled into the Titan Garages machine very quickly with him making forward progress in all the three heats. At the completion of the heats Robbie ended up with a win, second and fourth placing. His strong performance in the heats saw Robbie starting out of position 2 in the preliminary A Main and with the Titan Garages sprintcar running so strongly, Robbie was able to score his second victory of the evening. With the lapped traffic, the field was kept very close through most of the preliminary A Main. In the closing stages they came up to around 5 lapped cars and with the top four finishers going straight into the Dash races, it looked like that’s how they would finish the race. Unfortunately second placed Nathan McDonald made contact with Robbie’s rear wheel and crashed on the final tour. Robbie powered on and was able to take out the win.

Saturday night saw Robbie starting from position one in the first Dash race. Racing with Max Dumesny into turn 1 Robbie was running too hard and spun out, driver error but still came back from the rear to pick up a third placing. His third placing gave the “Action Man” position 3 in that all important Australian Sprintcar Open A Main. Robbie fell back to fourth position in the early laps but around lap 10, he started to feel more comfortable and moved forward getting by both Stephen Bell and Andrew Scheuerle. But unfortunately Max Dumesny was too far in front on the tight Brisbane track and without a yellow light stoppage Robbie had to settle for a superb second placing. A good end to a great summer.

“Well it was a great weekend only one spot off a perfect weekend. I would like to thank the Titan Garages team, Glenno, Steve and the boys, I think we worked well all weekend. I have raced against them all season and it was great to race with them, It was fun.”
