Last weekend was a testing time for Robbie Farr and his crew as they tried getting used to a 410 cubic inch motor and the big fast half mile race track of Calistoga. After a lengthy break since winning the Driver to World of Outlaws premiership at Parramatta City Raceway in March 2002 the team was not happy with their results but tonight’s results were much more rewarding as he felt like he was back home at PCR when he competed in the Gold Cup at Chico California.

After pulling the last pill # out of the bag which meant that he was going to be the last car of the night to Qualify and the track would be gone with 45 cars Qualifying in front of him the start of the night did no look to good.

After two sets of hot laps Robbie and his crew had set up the car best they could and after 45 cars its was Robbie’s turn and he clocked a 12.616 which was good for 10th place. That qualified him for the 2nd row out side in the 2nd heat, where he finished 3rd. This gave him a start in the 2nd Dash where he finished 3rd again. This in turn qualified him on the outside of the 3rd row of the main event.

In the first 15 laps Robbie had worked his to 3rd behind King Kinser and Brad Furr. Then he locked in behind a slow lap car and with the track going away fast the low groove was the only way round and that let Mark Kinser and Tim Shaffer complete a high line pass and that put Robbie back to fifth place.

A yellow came out with 4 laps to go and that gave Robbie time to pull alongside of the lap car and after some fists flying and finger pointing the lap car got the message and on the restart moved off line a little and let Robbie go by. Within half a lap he was on the tail of Shaffer and Mark Kinser but the flagman had the white flag in his hand and Robbie had to settle for fifth Place. That made him the highest finishing non-WoO regular.

At this time Robby is sixth in points with the 2nd night of racing only hours away. So now it’s a wait and see what happens tonight before we will know where he is starting in the Gold Cup on Saturday night.

What ever happens on Saturday I have got to say that the Driver to the world of outlaws point fund that was run at PCR has been a tremendous success, it is great to see a driver from down under get in a top car and run with the best in the world, we have had people coming out of the wood-work to help us with parts and spares for the ride.

Aussie Peter Murphy has been a great help on the deal from the start having the car moved to his shop 3 months ago and getting a great deal on a truck and trailer to move the car around. Robbie’s Aussie crew and of cause the King himself as been a great help giving Robbie some help with the set up of the car.

After the main is over you feel like you are at PCR with all the other Aussie’s that are in the grandstand coming into the pits and hanging out at Robbies car, having a beer and having a great time.
