| No Action For The Action Man, Robbie Farr | ||||

It certainly wasn’t the start to the new season that Robbie Farr was hoping for, with Robbie not even making it into the A Main field at Parramatta. Last Friday night’s season opener at the Parramatta City Raceway definitely gave the Action Man his fair share of troubles, even though his #79 John Hart owned sprintcar was ultra competitive. Small problems plagued Robbie all night long and while comfortably leading the B Main, going into turn three the left rear tyre rolled off the rim, deflating the tyre and sending Robbie into the tyre wall and out for the night. The opening heat saw Robbie starting from position seven but as usual was quickly on the pace and powered his way through the field in the unfamiliar John Hart owned car. Robbie continued his forward progress to finish in a brilliant second position. While car started to smoke towards the end of the 12 lap heat, the oil leak didn’t stop Robbie from finishing the race. A leaking rocker cover was the culprit which also covered Robbie’s driving suit in oil, forcing him to borrow another suit for the reminder of the evening. In heat eight Robbie came off the front row and jumped into an immediate led where he was looking good for the win, well that was until the arm restraint on his borrowed suit got caught up in the steering wheel causing Robbie to spin out. After the restart Robbie was again on the gas and was moving his way forward until he struck more drama’s, the coil lead dropped off, stopping his race and forcing the Action Man out of the race. That retirement meant that Robbie would have to try and qualify into the Feature field through the B Main. Coming from position 4, Robbie had the #79 machine dialed into the quick Parramatta track and took command very early in the race. Unfortunately his bad luck continued when the left rear tyre rolled from the inner bead of the wheel, allowing the tyre to deflate sending Robbie into the tyre wall. That was the end of Robbie opening night of racing for season 2002/3. “It was absolutely terrible tonight, every time I went out something went wrong. The car was running well and I think we were quick enough, the set up was also good but unless you’re in the A Main it doesn’t matter.” Next Saturday night Robbie venture’s away to Western Australia and will be making his debut in the Krikke Motorsport owned Avenger. He will be contesting the Car Craft WA Sprintcar Series round at Bunbury City Speedway. For his local Sydney fans, Robbie will not be back at his home Parramatta track until December 14th for the Sydney round of the World Sprintcar Series. |
