Well its here the 2002/3 World Series Sprintcars, the series Robbie and the Toyota Genuine Parts/ Krikke Motorsports Team wants to win and at last Saturday night’s Bunbury Speedway series opener Robbie and the #2 Avenger were in sensational form. After gaining pole in a brilliant Pole Shuffle run, Robbie ended up with third placing in the 30 lap A Main feature after breaking a shock and tagging the wall during the race. As with the usual WSS format, time trails started the night off and with Robbie having a good run at Bunbury just two weeks earlier, he along with the entire Krikke Motorsports team were confident of a good evening. With a great time of 13.429sec, Robbie ended up with fourth fastest time out of the quality 31 cars on hand at Bunbury. Coming out of position 9 in the opening 10 lap heat, Robbie made brilliant forward progress to be in third position at the checker. The next heat saw Darren Jensen spin out early in the race, sending cars everywhere as they tried to avoid Jensen’s machine. In the incident Robbie’s Toyota Genuine Parts Avenger had the front wing torn off, but still the Action Man was able to finish up in a sensational sixth position. The all important pole shuffle was the next event for Robbie and coming in at position 6, one by one Robbie was able to move up the order, claiming pole position for the A Main feature. The Krikke Motorsports crew had the car dialed into the Bunbury track conditions with the Avenger handling the track conditions superbly. The start of the A Main race was marred by a couple of yellow lap situatiuons which was unfortunate for Robbie as he had won each of the race start’s over American Ace Daryn Pittman. On the third and final attempt, Pittman got the jump and controlled the race over Robbie. Around mid race the front shock absorber broke on the #2 Avenger, then Robbie tagged the wall on the back straight, buckling the right rear wheel and from then on Robbie had to stop his attacks on Pittman’s lead. With around 3 laps remaining Stephen Bell forged by Robbie to take second leaving the Action Man to claim third. A third placing with a damaged car was a good result and it was a fine effort by Robbie and the Krikke Motorsports team. “We had a car that was good enough to win but it just wasn’t to be. We will take what we can from Saturday night and look forward to this weeks WSS round at Kwinana.” This Saturday night the Toyota Genuine Parts, Quick Race Parts, Bunbury Toyota, Krikke Motorsports, PWR Radiators, Revolution Racegear, Valvoline Avenger will be racing at the superb Perth track of Kwinana where Robbie hopes to improve just two positions and win Round two of the prestigious World Series Sprintcars. |
