Last night Robbie Farr debut a brand new Avenger, the car he hopes will lead him to victories in the $50,000 PCR Summer Slam and the all important 2002 Australian Sprintcar Title.

The new EWT Auto Dismantlers/Robbie Farr Motorsports machine looked almost identical to the Avenger Robbie has so successfully campaigned this season. Unfortunately minor teething problems hit Robbie with him finishing a little further back than usual in the A Main. The “Action Man” ended up with a very creditable 5th placing, but is confident after a couple of meetings the new car will be fast and extremely competitive.

The Parramatta City Raceway boasted another competitive lineup of sprintcars and drivers with 16 times World of Outlaw Champ Steve Kinser in the field. Robbie’s opening heat saw him powering away from fifth starting position to finish with third position by the end of the 10 lap encounter. His second race in heat four saw Robbie coming out of position six and was running in a strong third for all but the final lap. Dialing the new #56 Avenger into the Parramatta track, Robbie was having a great battle with Bruce White for most of the race but entering turn one, the Avenger broke away sending Robbie into a spin, but luckily he was able to regain his momentum to finish back in sixth position.

The all important 30 lap WSFM World Sprintcar Cup saw Robbie again starting alongside Steve Kinser in position nine. By lap five, the Robbie’s EWT/Standox Paints /Valvoline #56 Avenger was up into fourth position and within five more laps had moved up another position and was still ahead of the three touring American racers . As the track started to slicken off, Robbie began to drop down the order to finally greet the checker in fifth position.

“We are just sorting the bugs out. Tonight we didn’t get it right with the new car. We’ve got a couple of shows, that’s why we bought it out now, trying to get it right in time for the big shows. Its just new car teething troubles, but we’ll be right!”

Robbie and the new EWT Avenger will be back out racing this Tuesday night (New Years Day) at the Parramatta City Raceway giving him one more shoot out before the big $50,000 to win Summer Slam race, set for Friday (4th January) and Saturday (5th January).
