ECPR : Robbie’s Positive Build Up

ECPR : Robbie’s Positive Build Up
( Jan  16, 2012 ) - On a night where passing was at a premium, and every car was about the same speed in the 30 lap A-Main event, Robbie Farr’s slashing run from position #17 on the grid to an eventual 9th at the fall of the chequers was pretty damn impressive. With not one car being lapped, the field paced the Speedway City (Adelaide) circuit at near record speed with most teams being around the same speed and very difficult to put a passing move on.

“It was locked down for sure,” agrees Farr, “but we were able to get by a number of cars and break into the top ten. That scored us some Championship points and prevented a result that could have been far worse.”

The night was a challenge for Robbie from the get go. Farr timed the Orrcon Steel / Vermeer / Hi-Tec Oils #7 Maxim in at position #18 from 41 cars in a result that was reasonably solid considering how late his marble draw put him in the sun-soaked session.

“The later the marble you draw and the later you come out to do your qualifying laps, generally the harder it is to time inside the top ten,” Farr explained, “particularly on a hot, sunny and windy day. Qualifying is so brutal and so important in the overall scheme of things that if you get a late marble and you don’t turn it into something positive your chasing your tail all night.”

And whilst Farr wasn’t chasing his tail necessarily he certainly was heading in the same direction as it prior to the A-Main.
“We pulled ourselves out of a hole, no doubt. Making the transfer by running third in the B-Main and then heading out of the pits with 9th place was far better than I thought we’d have at one point.”

Farr now moves into third place, a mere 23 points behind second placed Brooke Tatnell as the WSS competition takes a breather before Wednesday, February 1 at West Australia’s Kalgoorlie Speedway.

This week however is a flurry of major events for the East Coast Pipeline Team with three major events at three major venues in just five days.

Night One for ECPR will see Farr contest the 2012 President’s Cup at Avalon Raceway Lara (Geelong) this Wednesday night January 18, before one night off and then a five hour haul down the road to Borderline Speedway Mt. Gambier for the 2012 Kings Challenge on Friday night January 20.

The team then heads immediately to the two-night $40,000 to win Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Premier Speedway Warrnambool.
“This is the big money time,” smiles Farr, “this is where you can turn your whole season around. I think our form is good and we’ve got good car speed. There’s no reason why we can’t pull of something special over the next few days.”
